Welcome to this first issue of our newsletter. Considering the number of changes that have been made recently which affect every employee’s wage packet we thought it might be helpful if we were to provide a forum for any questions or announcements that may be of interest to you. If you have any questions or would like to see a particular subject discussed in more detail, please let us know and we will consider it for future editions.

Where did my money go?

Christine answers an all too familiar question raised by many employees in her own inimitable style.

Since April, my take home pay has gone down by about £50 per month. I was worried about how to tell my wife, but she doesn’t seem too bothered by our reduced finances. In fact she’s been on a shopping spree buying new shoes for our two children. Do you think she has a rich boyfriend?

No, don’t worry, your wife hasn’t got a rich boyfriend, but she is ‘getting it elsewhere’. Since April, the children’s tax credit has been payable directly into the claimant’s bank account (that is your wife’s) and is no longer being paid through the tax code. If you’re not getting yours, the Helpline number is 0845 300 1036

News for new Dads
Just to show there is no favouritism towards the fairer sex, with effect from 6 April, new Dads will qualify for Paternity Pay. The generous sum of up to £100 per week will be payable to Dads who choose to take unpaid Paternity Leave during the first 8 weeks after the date of birth. Statutory Paternity Pay is available to a biological father, a partner/husband that is not the baby’s biological father or a female partner in a same sex couple.

Hastings Half-Marathon

Many thanks to all those who sponsored my effort in the above. I managed to finish with a time of 2h15m (but it really, really hurt) The Ashdown Hurriers raised a grand total of £4,152.30.
THANK YOU!
