| In
a new initiative to encourage greater support for charities
the Government is about to introduce new incentives in the
form of grants of up to £500 for businesses who set
up a 'payroll giving scheme' in the UK. In a move to boost
incomes to charities a massive £8.3 million has been
set aside by the Government for businesses who take part.
Amongst these locally Pro-Pay Ltd have taken the plunge
and established a scheme within the Ashdown Hurrey Group.
Alison Godwin is the Head of Payroll Services at Pro-pay
Ltd, the payroll division of the Ashdown Hurrey group
and is advising clients on developing schemes of their
own.
Alison said:
"This is great news for charities, the business community
and people who would like to make regular contributions
to groups they support. With grants of up to £500
available, this makes fantastic sense for any small or
medium sized business. If Employers are able to set up
the scheme for very little or no cost, then the balance
of the grant may be paid to a charity of their own choice!
"
Current tax incentives enable a basic rate taxpayer to
donate £10 a month by just giving £7.80 (or
£6 for higher rate taxpayers). The Government will
also match each employee's donation pound for pound, up
to a maximum of £10 per month for six months from
when the employee signs up.
Alison added:
"Charities play a critical role in so much good work.
Regular donations ensure they can operate effectively
and continue to help the people who need help most."
